Precision provided a Cost Estimating analysis for the Diablo Canyon Nuclear Power Plant Decommissioning Project, focused on the facility’s hazardous waste transfer station in Pismo Beach.
Precision assessed options to remove the hazardous waste derived from decommissioning operations and concluded that the most cost-effective solution is by railroad. To accomplish this, Precision recommended modifying the plant’s rail yard to meet project needs.
As a result, PG&E made significant facility upgrades and site modifications, including: a new 20,000-square-foot hazardous waste transfer building, 3,100-linear-feet of new rail track, new air quality monitoring systems, upgraded facility lighting, an additional guard house and automated lift gates, and extensive roadway and traffic signal improvements.
